Representative composers include – but are certainly not limited to - Hildegaard von Bingen, Guillame Dufay, Claudio Monteverdi, Johannes Brahms, Cecile Chaminade, Urmas Sisask, R. Murray Schafer, Benjamin Britten, Robert Fleming and Eleanor Daley. The group has won acclaim in the Sudbury area for its performances of intriguing music and sometimes in intriguing spaces. The director of this group, David Buley, invites vocally versatile musicians with an ability to read music to consider setting aside Wednesday evenings from 7:00 until 9:30 for dynamic and exhilarating rehearsals. Some independent practice is expected and necessary. High school and college students are very welcome. Please contact ariadnewomenschoir@gmail.com for more information or to set up an audition time. We can also be contacted us through our email address. Ariadne has distinguished itself in concerts of Benjamin Britten’s Ceremony of Carols, a Lenten Meditation musical evening, and their first season performances of Song is Spirit Heard, and their lakeside performances at dawn in Wake Wonderful Marvel Morning – both parts of a celebration of the music of R. Murray Schafer – as well A Medieval Christmas and Birdsongs and Bardsongs, and last season’s Earth Wind Fire and Water Water, sung in the Laurentian University Swimming Pool! Ariadne was the first runner-up in the Ontario Music Festival Association’s Provincial Finals in 2009 and received Honorable Mention in the 2010 competition. Ariadne is one of a number of international choirs to be invited to participate in Festival 500 in Newfoundland in July, 2011. This year’s season includes a sunset concert at Laurentian Beach (September 19 at dusk), the North American premiere of Jean Catoire’s Requiem in Music That Soothes the Soul. (November 10 at 8 pm at Ste-Anne des Pins.); a repeat performance of Britten’s Ceremony of Carols (December 19 at 7 pm Church f the Epiphany), and their Spring concert on May 1st, 2011 at 7 pm celebrating the delights of animals!
